Yangon has so much lodging all over the city. As with any place in Myanmar, if you’re a foreigner ensure that your accommodation has the special permit allowing foreigners to stay overnight.

I was really happy with my guest house in Yangon, so I recommend it! If you make purchases through links provided, I may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. Keep in mind, I only recommend places I actually like, so opinions here are my own.

Guest House in Yangon

I spent my one night in Yangon at Chan Myaye Guest House. I got a private room with a bathroom and could not have been happier. The price range is $18-$30 USD for dorms and private rooms. Click now to see more photos, check prices, and reserve a room or bed on Booking.com or Agoda.com.

The location is fantastic. There are little street cafes on the same block. Also, it’s just a block up from a huge park with green lawn and filled with local families, groups of friends, and just super social. I walked to the ferry (walk to the river, then turn right until you reach the ferry) to cross the river for a visit to the Snake Pagoda. I also walked to the massive Shwe Dagon Pagoda– it’s a longish walk and was still really hot even before sunrise in May, so take a bus or taxi if you’re going later.

The WiFi worked really well. On my 2nd day, I explored the city, since I had a late afternoon departure from Yangon. The owner let me store my luggage in a locker for the day and use the shower in the dorms upon my return. The whole place is perfectly clean, the staff is really helpful, and the free breakfast includes nice fruit, but no mohinga (soup).

The dorms looked really nice! Each bed had a curtain around it and an air conditioner inside (so smart!). Also, there was a way to lock up your bag beside your bed. The balcony off the room had a nice view overlooking the colonial building across the way and the street 5 stories below.

There’s no elevator, so be ready for stairs if you stay here. However, the location, cleanliness, and staff helpfulness is fantastic. The 24-hour front desk is great for early and late arrivals or departures.
